Dog Moments

IMG_2135Hello my beautiful people!

I know, it’s been a while. It’s been a crazy couple of months from graduating high school, to working early (I mean EARLY) mornings for cherry harvest. But I’m back now, and there’s some exciting posts coming up! I’m heading to Europe tomorrow and I’m so stoked! It’ll be my first time on another continent, and I’m so ecstatic to bring you along with me on this journey. So stay tuned for some exciting travel posts coming your way! I mean, because who doesn’t like travel posts?

So let’s get into this maybe cute, maybe funny post about (you’ve probably already guessed it based on the title and the picture) my precious dog, Barley.

Here’s the story:

When I was 10 years old, my sister and I came home from a week away with the grandparents. Tired from the past week’s hot summer sun, and the 2 1/2 hour drive, but also excited to see my parents because I got homesick very easily then, my sister and I trudged out of the car. But as soon as we stepped on our homeland, our eyes grew wider and huge smiles were plastered on our faces. It wasn’t just our parents that walked out our door to greet us, there was a small, wild, furry black with golden eyebrow spots friend as well. My sister and I galloped over to the puppy with glee, hugging and petting him. We probably scared the poor thing, not knowing who the heck we were.

The short-story behind his name:

My parents gave my sister and I the privilege to name him. The pound originally named him Barley after the soup. Yes, a soup. His brothers and sisters were named after soups as well. My sister and I agreed to keep that name, thinking that it fits him well. Our eyes glued to the adorable Australian-German-Shepard, my sister and I had no idea how much love and protection this dog would provide us in the coming years.

Over the past 8 years, Barley has added over amounts of joy, love, and happiness into our family. He’s so fun and lovable, so I thought I would share my top 3 favorite moments our family has had with Barley. IMG_3973 copyMOMENT #1:

When Barley was still a puppy, rambunctious as could be, all four of us were playing fetch with Barley in our yard. You know, just a casual throw the ball, dog runs to get it, brings it back, repeat. But to spice it up a little, someone threw the ball and Sophie (sister) chases after Barley up the hill. Barley charges back down the hill with the ball in his mouth not letting anything get in his way (literally). With Sophie in his way, he charges into her legs, completely flipping her. My parents and I were on the ground laughing our heads off. I was crying (a good cry). Sophie was okay and still living. It was hilarious, and it’s a memory I’ll never forget.IMG_3991 copyIMG_4009 copyMOMENT #2:

About a month or two ago, my grandma, Sophie, and I came home from Petco with a gigantic, I mean gigantic, bone. (See pic below!!!) We thought that Barley would love this bone that was bigger than his face, and would gobble it right up.

Well, no.

When Barley first received the bone, he was giddy as could be. We were giggling about how big it was and took a few pictures. We went inside to go on with our day, and thinking that Barley would want his privacy with his new, tasty friend.

About 10 minutes later, I glanced out the kitchen window, particularly looking for Barley and his bone. All I could find was Barley, but not his bone. So I went outside to look for it and it was nowhere to be found! Barley immediately buried this gigantic bone when we were caught off-guard. We thought it was hilarious how Barley would go bury the bone instead of eating it. I guess that’s what dogs do, right? He’s saving it for a rainy day.IMG_1979MOMENT #3:

When I’m going out for a photoshoot around the orchard I live by, I love to take Barley with me because he loves adventuring just as much as I do. He’s my adventure buddy. He roams around, sniffing up the mysterious smells of the world while I’m snapping away. But there’s never at least one picture that Barley isn’t in. Let’s just say Barley likes to model and he’d probably would take that up as a career. I’m not gonna lie, it can be quite annoying when I’m going for a certain aesthetic in the shoot and Barley jumps in. But he also can take my creativity to the next level when I’m shooting, allowing me to explore how I can include him and the model creatively in the shot to tell the right story. So I thank him for that. IMG_4001 copyIf you’re looking to adopt a cute, furry animal, go check out PuppySpot! Winter Wonderland

fullsizeoutput_49efullsizeoutput_46cYep, we’re still having a good, solid winter up here in Washington State. I noticed that I haven’t shared any of my wintery, nature photos on here yet due to me sharing the nice, warm California photos, and also other things that I wanted to share. 🙂

There’s no way I can avoid the fact that it isn’t winter up here, since we’ve had many nights of ice storms and then school being delayed the next day. I can’t complain about school being delayed, because who doesn’t like that?! But I actually like my classes and want to go to school, so sometimes it sucks when one of my classes gets cancelled. But then there’s the part where I don’t want to drive on the icy, life-threatening roads, and would be okay with just staying warm and cozy at home, in my bed.

I’m to the point where I’m saying, “okay, Mother Nature, Christmas is over now. The snow can go away.”

But, nope. It keeps coming. Or more like freezing rain.

But there was a day, Super Bowl day, where it WOULD NOT STOP SNOWING. I couldn’t tell you how many inches we got–A LOT. Yep, school was delayed, and I was out there helping the family shovel the mountains of snow.

No offense to all the people who love winter, I love it too at times. Snow creates these beautiful, magical moments that I have the privilege to capture with my camera. So I’m sharing those with you today! These photos are from over the last couple winter months; varying from cloudy snowy days to beautiful blue sky, lets-take-in-some-vitamin-D days. So from me to you. Enjoy and tell me what you think! 🙂

Spread Love

fullsizeoutput_2eeHappy Valentine’s Day!

I guess I’ll get straight to the point of this post: a lot of you may look at Valentine’s Day as a romantic day for couples. A day full of smooches and hugs and lots of love. That’s how I viewed it for quite a while, until I realized it’s so much more than that. Of course it’s a day for couples in the love daze, but it’s also a day for just simply the act of love. Love for the people who are closest to us, our friends, our cat, our dog, our fish. Everyone. Valentine’s Day is a good excuse to show your love extra to everyone you encounter, as well as to yourself. This world could always use some more love–whether it’s a great big hug to someone close to you, or just a simple smile to a stranger you walk by. Use this day to doodle hearts all over your papers just to bring joy into your life. When you look in the mirror, smile, because you are beautiful and you need that self-love. Use this day to just simply bring pure happiness into your life. Buy a card for a friend or your sibling, or buy a coffee for yourself just to make life a little happier. Don’t be sad if you’re single and you have no date for tonight, because first, I don’t either, and second, truly loving yourself should always be on the top of your list, and have confidence. That’s what is truly beautiful. So go out and spread love–everyone deserves it.

You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero

Processed with VSCO with a4 presetOkay, so I did say that I would do a blog post on this book, so here I am! I’m very excited to talk about this book, because it is truly motivational and inspiring. The author, Jen Sincero, puts your booty into gear and tell it how it is. Jen puts up with no crap and she tells you exactly what the title says-how to stop doubting yourself and start living an awesome life.

Jen Sincero gives you all the tips there are. When I was reading this book, I tried to soak in every single word. The words are powerful and they are written with purpose-just like how you should be living your life with purpose.

The overall theme of this book is to LOVE YOURSELF. You only have one life, so why waste it? Start living the life you’ve always dreamed of, turn off the TV and go explore the world, and stop putting things off. There’s so much you can do in one life, so don’t take anything for granted. Loving yourself is so important, because there’s only one you and you should treat yourself kindly and be confident with who you are.

Here are some of my favorite quotes that I wrote down, and I’ll link Jen Sincero’s website and a place to buy the book down below:

“It was about no longer being the kind of person who takes what she can get, and finally becoming the kind of person who creates exactly what she wants.”

“Be your best, do your best, demand the best, expect the best, receive the best, and put your best out into the world so everyone can receive your best, too.”

“You can change your entire reality on a dime if you want to badly enough or massively increase your income level or drop ten pounds or begin waking up excited to be who you are… whatever level of upgrade you want, it’s available to you, right now. You just have to decide to make it happen, to be engaged with your life and let the Universe work for you.”

“The key word is believe-you can’t be shitting bricks and charging more than you believe you’re worth and expect to receive it, and you can’t charge less than you believe you’re worth and expect to flourish because you’ll be pissed off.”

“The things that bother us about other people bother us because they remind us of something we don’t like about ourselves.”

“The people you surround yourself with are excellent mirrors for who you are and how much, or how little you love yourself.”

Quick and Affordable Christmas Gift🎄

fullsizeoutput_25d Looking for a cheap, but cute Christmas gift for a sweet friend? Well I got you covered. With these DIY marbled mugs, and a few goodies, you’ll be giving your friend an awesome gift. Let me tell you, these mugs are so easy to make! Not to mention, they make a great last minute gift as well! Just run into your Dollar Store, grab a mug (and maybe some nail polish if you don’t have it😉) and starting creating!

What you need:

  • a mug
  • nail polish (the more pigmented the color, the better)
  • warm water
  • toothpicks

Here’s how:fullsizeoutput_24bPour your nail polish into the warm water until the color starts to disperse. I recommend putting a decent amount of color into the water, so you’re confident that it will show up on your mug.fullsizeoutput_24eQuickly take a toothpick (I used a skewer☺️) and swirl the nail polish around so it makes a cool marble design.fullsizeoutput_24fGrab your mug, dip, and see the magic!fullsizeoutput_250fullsizeoutput_251The nail polish is like a film on the mug, so hand wash it carefully! There’s a little bit of blue on this mug from the previous color that I used, but it’s okay because that’s what makes it unique! At this point, set your mug down to dry. I let mine sit for the rest of the day and overnight. fullsizeoutput_255Fill your cute mug with some goodies, and your done! I filled my mugs with a face mask, some lip balm, fuzzy socks, and a candy bar.☺️ fullsizeoutput_254These mugs make the cutest, and easiest gift. I’m actually giving these mugs to a couple of my sweet friends. I’m also going to stick a little note in the mug explaining to hand wash carefully. This DIY could be a great gift for any occasion. You can even make it for yourself, and enjoy your warm drink in it. I’m highly considering making a black and gray one.😊

I hope you enjoyed this, and let me know some ideas you’d like me to blog. Should I make a video of my next DIY?!

Have a great holiday season filled with joy and peace.❤️

I’m Back! & a Little Self Talk..

unnamed.jpg

Hey peeps! I know it’s been forever since I last posted. Life just became quite busy once September hit. I’ve been working on college applications and I have been busy with school since that started a few weeks ago, along with cross country on top of that. I’m planning on getting back on track, and starting to plan future posts. But enough with the excuses and let’s get on with the purpose of this post…

Here’s a quote:

“The people you surround yourself with are excellent mirrors for who you are and how much, or how little, you love yourself.”

I read this phrase from a book I’m reading by Jen Sincero. (I will be doing a review on that very soon!!! I have like 10 pages left, and the book is awesome.) When I read this quote I had to sincerely pause and think about what it meant. I think I read the quote at least 5 times before I finally could process what it meant, and how I could interpret it into my life.

The people you hang around with are a “mirror” of who you are as a person. Meaning you most likely have the same type of attitude as that person, whether it’s good or bad. You still have the right to change your attitude, whether it’s from bad to good or good to bad. It’s all about you and how you want to spend your life. Surround yourself by people who lift you up. The people you hang out with should make you happy, and you should always be having fun with them. If something’s not going the way you want it to, and you’re just not happy with your life, change it. We all have the ability to change our lives, and make it how we want it. We, and even I, may not realize it yet, but I know deep down inside me we can all achieve our dreams, and the people around you should support you in everything.

I’ve recently noticed all the beautiful people surrounding me with their love. They pick me up, push me to be a better person, and simply love me for who I am. I am so thankful for that. I want to give back to them, and support them with all my might for them to go out into the world and achieve their dreams.

So find your people that surround you with their love, and make you a better person. Be grateful for them, and make sure you love them back.

In this world, we all mirror each other. I’m not saying that we try to be like each other; we are all our own selves. We push each other to keep going in life, and that’s what everyone needs.

So as you look in the mirror and the people around you, do you feel like you’re in the right spot? Are you loving yourself where you are right now? You deserve self-love, and no one can give it better than you.

The Little Things

024Happy September everyone! I honestly can’t believe that it’s already the month of September. It’s amazing how fast time flies by without us even knowing it. So this brings me down to the purpose of today’s post. With it being the first of September, the season of fall approaching, and new things coming, I’m going make an effort to enjoy the little things more often. Be in the present more.

Recently, I’ve been thinking about the future a lot. Thinking about college, what I’m going to do, and worrying too much about what if it’s not right. With all this thinking, I’m missing out on all the things that’s happening in my life right now. Yes, I will be applying for college and looking towards the future, but the college that I’m going to go to is already here, in the present, I just don’t know it yet.

I’ve been reading a book called, You are a Badass, by Jen Sincero. She talks about how to live your awesome life you’re meant to have, and stop thinking so much. Be in the present more, and basically just be more mindful. I just started it, so I’m not even close to getting the full message yet, but what I’ve read so far has made me way more aware about what’s going on in my life.

So to finish this post up, I just want to make the point to enjoy the little things. Photograph a moment that you’re really enjoying, have fun spending time with your friends and family, take the time to enjoy your cup of coffee in the morning, fall in deeply into the novel you’re reading. Whatever you’re doing with your time, enjoy that time. Be happy. Be present. We only have one life, so why worry so much?

What are your goals for the new month ahead? Thanks for reading, and have a wonderful September.

A Morning Downtown

101100088091103119079134

Not too long ago, I decided I want to expand my photography hobby. Meaning, I want to do something more with my photography skills. So this came down to the idea to do portrait photography; to capture the moments of other people creating memories, and so they can look back at these pictures and be reminded of happy times.

I asked my best friend, Hanna, if I could take pictures of her so I could practice my portrait photography, and that week we went downtown to have a fun, little photo shoot. We went downtown early, and it was a different experience than what I’ve had before. There wasn’t too many people, and there were actually parking spots! After the shoot, we went to a nearby coffee shop to enjoy the rest of the morning before we had to get on with the rest of our day.

I encourage you to expand one of your hobbies or try a new one, and go outside your comfort zone. You never know where it will take you.

P.S. A few weeks ago, I took pictures of my sister during a beautiful summer sunset. So check out that blog post here!

Motivation Tips

119

We all have that little voice inside our heads that’s telling us, “eh, I can do that later.” In other words, the “procrastination voice.” There’s always a day where we aren’t feeling up to doing a certain job, but you know you have to get it done. Or you have a free day where you can finally get things done, but when you wake up that morning you don’t feel like getting out of bed.

So today I’m sharing some tips to get you get or stay motivated and back at conquering the world. These tips I have for you are from what I learned from other people, and also what I find works well for me.

  • Listen to some good music. I find that playing music while you do your work, or exercising, or chores, makes doing the job a lot more fun. It also helps you stay focused. So I suggest creating a playlist you can jam out to. While I’m studying for school, I like to listen to classical music. It helps me focus on what I’m studying, and blocks out what’s going on outside of my brain.
  • Get something to motivate you and reward yourself. Sometimes when I’m feeling totally unmotivated, I’ll buy myself a coffee to motivate me. Coffee is something I love, and it just makes me happy; so sipping on a coffee and doing something I don’t feel like doing makes life so much easier. You can buy yourself a little treat to help you get motivated. Or you can reward yourself by watching a favorite show or buying yourself something you’ve had your eye on after you’ve completed your list.
  • Go outside and take a walk. Sometimes if you’re in the same room for a while, you tend to get sick of the environment and you begin to feel unmotivated. At this point in time, a friend suggested to me to go outside and take a walk. You get a different scenery, some fresh air, and a renewal to start over.
  • Think about the positive. Think about the benefits and pros you’re getting out of the work you have to do. For example, if you don’t want to go to your job, think about the hours you’re getting and the money you’re making. Everyone likes money, right? 😉 If you’re feeling unmotivated to practice your instrument, think about how you have the capability to play this beautiful instrument and create wonderful music. Thinking about the positive stuff will make you feel a lot better.036
  • If your work is portable, go somewhere outside your home. For instance, if some work you have to get done is on a computer, or you have to read a book for school, go to a café or a park. Going somewhere can increase your motivation by a lot. A change of the environment and a change of scenery is always good. 😉 I find that even going out on your porch to do homework or work is really motivating because then I’m not stuck inside.
  • Work with friends. We all know it, friends just make everything better. 🙂 Ask your friends if you want to go to a coffee shop or come over to your house to get some things done together. During school, doing homework with your friends makes the grudge not so bad, and makes the time go by faster.
  • Choose a certain time of day to do your work. Tell yourself, “Okay, I’m going to do this at 10.” Telling yourself you’re going to do a certain thing at a certain time can help motivate you to just get the job done. And when you tell yourself you’re going to do that thing at that time, DO IT. Don’t run away from it, you got it!
  • Make a ‘To Do List’ and get the list done at a certain time. Just write down all the things you need to get done for the day and tell yourself you’re going to get it all done by this time. Make it easy on yourself and start with the easy jobs first, then work your way up to the harder and more time consuming ones. If your able, write your to-do list the night before, and then the next morning you can wake up, do your morning routine, then start your list.

That’s all the tips I have for you. Really in the end, it’s all about that little voice inside your head. It’s just the fact at ignoring that little “procrastination voice” and just getting started. You’ll feel better once it’s all done!

I’m definitely still working on my own self-motivation, but I’m practicing on telling myself that I can do this, and it will all be better in the end!

So let’s gets started on that list, shall we? 😉 Have a great day, and make every moment count. ❤

Bedroom Makeover

There’s something about redecorating your room that makes you so motivated and inspired again to do things. Whenever I do a deep clean to my room, I feel refreshed and ready to go again to take on the world. I think having a personalized room is so important. Adding things that remind you of your accomplishments can just bring joy into your day, especially if you’re not having a very good one. Even hanging up photographs of important people in your life or things that remind us of our goals can help remind us to keep going in life, and to not give up. These are important factors that I keep in mind when I’m redecorating. I also find that the more simple and clean-looking it is, the better. As for my desk area (as you will see below), as days and months go by, it tends to get more filled up with photographs and memories and inspirations because life is a never ending joy, and it’s important to hang up the fun memories.  A couple weeks ago I redid my Great Grandpa’s bedside tables (I wrote about that process here) and since I was adding two bigger night stands to my room, I had to do some thinking on how I was going to make them look in my room. Redecorating makes me so happy, and I’m even more overjoyed when everything is put together. Along with the redecorating, I decided to reorganize my room and give it a nice, deep clean. This was mainly my desk area. It was a mess and it was time to reorganize and get rid of unnecessary things I don’t use. So I finally finished taking pictures of my room, and you’ll see all of them down below. 🙂

2.JPG
Excuse the laundry you see here in this picture. 😉

2a.JPG114.JPG106.JPG128The plant that you see is a coffee plant. No, it doesn’t actually grow coffee, but it’s an air purifier. To be completely honest, I am a plant killer; I even managed to kill a succulent–a cactus one! But so far this one has survived. It lets me know when it needs water because the leaves start drooping. So maybe an air purifying plant is what I need for my room. 9.JPG10.JPG11.JPG12.JPG13.JPGThis is my desk area. I’d say this is the area that inspires me the most, given the fact my inspiration wall is right in front of me when I’m sitting at my desk. Last year I made the hanging rope shelf from the awesome blog A Beautiful Mess. I use this to put inspiring things on. For instance, my accomplishments, fun memories, and things to remind me of my goals in life. For the hanging polaroids, I just took some twine, tied it to the hooks and hung my photos with white clothes pins I found at a craft store. Easiest DIY EVER. 😉 15.JPG16.JPG17.JPG14.JPG18.JPG19a.JPGThis is just my little quad board (I call it). I put my to do lists, quotes, and pictures on it. I just cleaned it off, so as the year goes on it will get covered again. 🙂 20.JPG21.JPGThen there’s my dresser. I just have little decorations on it to give it that personal vibe. 22.JPG23a.JPG24.JPGYou made it to the end! That’s my room for ya. I hope this inspires you to redo your room if you’re looking for a change. 😉 Have a lovely day.
