Southern California

fullsizeoutput_41efullsizeoutput_41bfullsizeoutput_419fullsizeoutput_25fTo finish up my mini series from California, I thought I would make this post a little more broader and include some of my favorite photos I took throughout my whole week that I was there. I’ve been really getting into nature photography, so it was so fun to shoot some different scenery and get more practice in. I’d say the hardest thing about photography is the lighting that you’re dealing with. When you’re out exploring, you’re definitely not going to have the perfect lighting everywhere you go. So you have to adjust. I think that’s what makes photography so fun, and also what makes me want to keep practicing every day and figure out the whole mystery behind it. I truly love capturing earth’s most beautiful moments.

The last three photos you saw is 1,000 step beach. I only got to go to this beach once, but I instantly fell in love with it. The stairs literally pop out of nowhere along the street, and it literally feels like a 1,000 steps until you get to the hidden beach.

But look at that pathway! It’s so beautiful! You have good scenery on the way down, and it’s great exercise when you’re coming back up.

Down the beach a ways is a very photogenic cave where lots of photographers do shoots (well, that’s what my cousin told me). But, there was actually a shoot in the process when we were there! On the other side of the cave is more rocks, a little sand, and lots of ocean. 😉

img_0088fullsizeoutput_420One thing that I really miss about California is its EPIC sunsets. Starting from day one there was a beautiful sunset, and I got the privilege to capture and experience one every single day. Don’t get me wrong, Washington has beautiful sunsets also. But in December it seems to be always cloudy here, and I miss some good Vitamin D with a sunset in the evening.

My cousin, Dakota, kept telling me that he was sorry how the day turned out; hazy. But I couldn’t care any less than the world. I was beyond amazed by the admirable ocean and the sun setting at the endless horizon. I was so thankful. (Plus it was much warmer there, and I could actually wear a short sleeve outside without my arms getting frost bite.)fullsizeoutput_2d6fullsizeoutput_428fullsizeoutput_2cdfullsizeoutput_2cffullsizeoutput_2cefullsizeoutput_2c9One evening, Dakota took me up a canyon and I got to take in some California nature. One thing that I love about California is you have almost about every aspect of nature. You have the ocean, the city, cute towns, canyons, forests, and even snow; and it’s all just a short drive away. Also, the majority of the days there consist of bright and sunny blue skies with of course some cloudy and rainy days every once in a while. But I think we all need those days. 😉

This evening consisted of another golden sunset. I’m telling ya, sunsets are my favorite thing in the whole wide world. Even the sunrise. It just brings me so much happiness. That’s also golden hour, and it’s the most perfect time to get some good photographs. fullsizeoutput_2a5fullsizeoutput_426

Hey, look, there’s an airplane!

HERE’S A SHORT STORY OF THE VERY FIRST TIME I WAS IN HOLLYWOOD:

5th grade; driving back from Disneyland.

“Oh hey! We’re driving through L.A. Let’s stop!”

Gets out of car for five minutes. Walks a 1/2 block of the sidewalk of stars. Gets back in car. Leaves. Oh, and saw the Hollywood sign for like two seconds.

Yep. That was my first experience of Hollywood. This time, along with being a little bit older, I got to really experience it. We walked downtown Hollywood, went out for lunch, and then hiked a trail up towards the Hollywood sign. We didn’t go all the way to it, because time was a little crunch. But next time I definitely want to hike to it. In fact, I would love to spend a couple days in L.A. just to really get the feel of the city.

However, Dakota and I did get up at 5 A.M. and drove to L.A. for a quick “business” thing. That morning I got to see Rodeo Drive and all those high-end brands. That was pretty cool. 😉 Then we drove back. But also, my last night there, I went to one of Dakota’s get-togethers that was in downtown L.A., so I still got some quick, little experiences.fullsizeoutput_424fullsizeoutput_421If you’re ever in L.A., Pressed Juicery is a place you have to go to. It’s so good, and healthy! If we had one where I live, I would seriously spend all my money there-it’s that good.

fullsizeoutput_42afullsizeoutput_42bfullsizeoutput_42dfullsizeoutput_42cAnd of course there’s no better picture to end this post with than of the ocean. I absolutely love the ocean. Who knows, maybe California would be a place I live someday. If I did live there, I may pick up some surfing lessons. I’ve always wanted to learn how to surf. We’ll see where life takes me. 🙂

As of right now, I am sitting here writing this post and appreciating where I am right now with what I have. This is definitely something huge that I learned coming into the new year. I had such a great experience in California, and I want to thank my family down there for making that experience so great and memorable. And also thank you to my parents for letting me fly down. Super grateful for that.

Don’t forget to check out my San Diego and Laguna Beach posts! During the week I was in California I took a train to San Diego and explored that great city! I go into detail of where I went and saw. 🙂

On another note, some other places that I want to go to in California is San Francisco, Big Sur, and Palm Springs. We’ll see if 2017 brings that. 😉 I’m also really wanting to go to New York City.🙈 I can already tell 2017 is going to bring big things, and I’m so excited for what’s to come.

Keep dreaming loves, and keep working hard towards them.❤️

Hello 2017!

fullsizeoutput_309Happy 2017! I hope everyone had/is having a great New Years. I can’t believe 2016 is already over; the year went by so fast! This is the year where I’ll be graduating high school, and that’s insane! I remember always writing down my graduation year in elementary school and thought it was soooo far away. But in reality, it was just around the corner. Thinking of things like that reminds me to live in the moment and don’t take anything for granted. I know that sounds really cliche, but it’s a true statement!

I am creating this post because I want to take a moment to express my gratefulness for 2016. I’m going to try to keep this simple and brief, but we’ll see how it goes.😉

fullsizeoutput_311

This past year I have learned so much about myself and life. We only have one life, and we need to live up the moment every day. There’s something to be happy about each day, whether it’s the beautiful scenery outside your window, the sun, one of your friends or family members accomplished something, or just simply having a bed to sleep in. I learned, especially this past week, that we need to find the positive things out of each day. Taking the time to be happy as of where you are right now will contribute so much joy in your life.

fullsizeoutput_320

Over the past year I have developed a deep passion for travel. In 2016, I was able to take two amazing trips and I am so incredibly thankful for that. Seeing the world is one of my dreams and lifetime goals. This world is so big with so much to see, and it’s just an absolutely awe-striking planet. This past year I traveled to Quebec, Canada, and I recently made a trip to California. (I’ll link those blog posts down below!) 2016 brought me a step closer to my dream, and 2017 is bringing me even closer because I’m going to Europe this summer, with hopefully a couple other trips also. Dreams become realities, you just have to believe in them.❤️

fullsizeoutput_25f

There is so much more I could say about 2016, but I’m so excited for 2017. I already know lots of things will be happening this year, including a whole new chapter of my life starting! So here’s to 2017, the best year yet to come.

2016 trips:

  1. A Trip to Québec (June)
  2. Laguna Beach (California; December)
  3. San Diego, California (December)

Stay tuned for some more California blog posts coming your way!

Happy new year and I wish you the best.

San Diego, California

fullsizeoutput_2d3Hey there! I wanted to share a few photos from my day trip to San Diego. I flew down to California to visit my family, however, everyone was busy one day, so I decided to take a train to San Diego and explore the great city! Not to mention that the 6:30 A.M. train was 45 minutes late and I literally caught the next train a minute before it left. It was my very first time adventuring an unknown place by myself, and it was such a wonderful experience. So this post is kind of like a travel guide of San Diego. My aunt told me where to go and what the major sightseeing places are, so I’m basically passing that along to you if you ever end up in this cool town. fullsizeoutput_2eaSo I took the train from San Clemente to Oceanside, then from Oceanside to downtown San Diego. When I got off the train it was raining, so I figured this would be a great time to grab some breakfast. I used the app, Yelp, to find a good cafe. I ended up finding my way to  Kuma cafe. I had the egg, ham, and cheese sandwich and it was delicious! The cafe was the cutest place, and it was right downtown.fullsizeoutput_2e9fullsizeoutput_2ecfullsizeoutput_2edfullsizeoutput_2f6By the time I was done with breakfast it stopped raining, so I walked down to the harbor. There’s a walking trail that goes all along the harbor. There were so many people jogging, socializing, and enjoying the view. Along the harbor is the Midway. That ship is HUGE. It was used during World War II. I didn’t take the tour of the ship-I heard it takes a couple hours, and I had so much more to see before the afternoon train departed. fullsizeoutput_2eeRecognize this statue? When I saw this I was amazed. This is right next to the Midway. The walking trail goes through a place called Seaport Village. There’s a bunch of places you can eat here, and also a couple shops. fullsizeoutput_2fdfullsizeoutput_2f5fullsizeoutput_2f1fullsizeoutput_2f2The trail goes around the Convention Center, and eventually you see Petco Park (a baseball field). I walked along the street to the Gaslamp District. The District consists of a ton of tourist shops and restaurants. It’s a great place to get souvenirs and postcards.😊fullsizeoutput_2f3fullsizeoutput_2f4fullsizeoutput_2f7After exploring some shops, I just kept walking along the walkway and embracing the view of the big buildings. I eventually made my way back to the train station. I noticed that there were maps everywhere in the city, so that’s very helpful. I’ll post down below the map that I used. There’s also a little area in town called ‘Little Italy’ and I believe the cafe where I ate my breakfast is part of that area. Overall, I basically walked a big loop sightseeing most of the touristy spots of the city. This day was a great experience for me as an individual. I was super happy that I got to add one more place that I’ve been to on my list. San Diego is definitely a place I would go back to again.❤️

Laguna Beach

fullsizeoutput_283fullsizeoutput_26aThe ocean puts me in a place that I can’t even explain. The sound of the waves crashing onto the beach, the endless horizon, the deep blue color. There’s something about the ocean that brings pure joy and peace to me. This view point off of Laguna Beach was absolutely spectacular, so I wanted to share the photographs I took and hopefully bring joy and peace into your day by the view of the ocean and the magical plants. fullsizeoutput_284fullsizeoutput_26d

Under-exposed photo, but the light reflecting on the water with the bird in the sky is so beautiful.

fullsizeoutput_280fullsizeoutput_27ffullsizeoutput_286fullsizeoutput_28bSo I’m currently in California, and I have been having a blast so far. Definitely needed a little bit of warmer weather and sunshine. It was literally 5 degrees when I left Washington, so the mid-60’s here is sooo nice. Trying to soak up every minute before I head back home. I’ve been having a lot of fun playing around with my photography and capturing nature at its greatest moments.

Stay tuned for some more California posts, and check out my Instagram to see what I’m up to next!

You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero

Processed with VSCO with a4 presetOkay, so I did say that I would do a blog post on this book, so here I am! I’m very excited to talk about this book, because it is truly motivational and inspiring. The author, Jen Sincero, puts your booty into gear and tell it how it is. Jen puts up with no crap and she tells you exactly what the title says-how to stop doubting yourself and start living an awesome life.

Jen Sincero gives you all the tips there are. When I was reading this book, I tried to soak in every single word. The words are powerful and they are written with purpose-just like how you should be living your life with purpose.

The overall theme of this book is to LOVE YOURSELF. You only have one life, so why waste it? Start living the life you’ve always dreamed of, turn off the TV and go explore the world, and stop putting things off. There’s so much you can do in one life, so don’t take anything for granted. Loving yourself is so important, because there’s only one you and you should treat yourself kindly and be confident with who you are.

Here are some of my favorite quotes that I wrote down, and I’ll link Jen Sincero’s website and a place to buy the book down below:

“It was about no longer being the kind of person who takes what she can get, and finally becoming the kind of person who creates exactly what she wants.”

“Be your best, do your best, demand the best, expect the best, receive the best, and put your best out into the world so everyone can receive your best, too.”

“You can change your entire reality on a dime if you want to badly enough or massively increase your income level or drop ten pounds or begin waking up excited to be who you are… whatever level of upgrade you want, it’s available to you, right now. You just have to decide to make it happen, to be engaged with your life and let the Universe work for you.”

“The key word is believe-you can’t be shitting bricks and charging more than you believe you’re worth and expect to receive it, and you can’t charge less than you believe you’re worth and expect to flourish because you’ll be pissed off.”

“The things that bother us about other people bother us because they remind us of something we don’t like about ourselves.”

“The people you surround yourself with are excellent mirrors for who you are and how much, or how little you love yourself.”

Quick and Affordable Christmas Gift🎄

fullsizeoutput_25d Looking for a cheap, but cute Christmas gift for a sweet friend? Well I got you covered. With these DIY marbled mugs, and a few goodies, you’ll be giving your friend an awesome gift. Let me tell you, these mugs are so easy to make! Not to mention, they make a great last minute gift as well! Just run into your Dollar Store, grab a mug (and maybe some nail polish if you don’t have it😉) and starting creating!

What you need:

  • a mug
  • nail polish (the more pigmented the color, the better)
  • warm water
  • toothpicks

Here’s how:fullsizeoutput_24bPour your nail polish into the warm water until the color starts to disperse. I recommend putting a decent amount of color into the water, so you’re confident that it will show up on your mug.fullsizeoutput_24eQuickly take a toothpick (I used a skewer☺️) and swirl the nail polish around so it makes a cool marble design.fullsizeoutput_24fGrab your mug, dip, and see the magic!fullsizeoutput_250fullsizeoutput_251The nail polish is like a film on the mug, so hand wash it carefully! There’s a little bit of blue on this mug from the previous color that I used, but it’s okay because that’s what makes it unique! At this point, set your mug down to dry. I let mine sit for the rest of the day and overnight. fullsizeoutput_255Fill your cute mug with some goodies, and your done! I filled my mugs with a face mask, some lip balm, fuzzy socks, and a candy bar.☺️ fullsizeoutput_254These mugs make the cutest, and easiest gift. I’m actually giving these mugs to a couple of my sweet friends. I’m also going to stick a little note in the mug explaining to hand wash carefully. This DIY could be a great gift for any occasion. You can even make it for yourself, and enjoy your warm drink in it. I’m highly considering making a black and gray one.😊

I hope you enjoyed this, and let me know some ideas you’d like me to blog. Should I make a video of my next DIY?!

Have a great holiday season filled with joy and peace.❤️

I’m Back! & a Little Self Talk..

unnamed.jpg

Hey peeps! I know it’s been forever since I last posted. Life just became quite busy once September hit. I’ve been working on college applications and I have been busy with school since that started a few weeks ago, along with cross country on top of that. I’m planning on getting back on track, and starting to plan future posts. But enough with the excuses and let’s get on with the purpose of this post…

Here’s a quote:

“The people you surround yourself with are excellent mirrors for who you are and how much, or how little, you love yourself.”

I read this phrase from a book I’m reading by Jen Sincero. (I will be doing a review on that very soon!!! I have like 10 pages left, and the book is awesome.) When I read this quote I had to sincerely pause and think about what it meant. I think I read the quote at least 5 times before I finally could process what it meant, and how I could interpret it into my life.

The people you hang around with are a “mirror” of who you are as a person. Meaning you most likely have the same type of attitude as that person, whether it’s good or bad. You still have the right to change your attitude, whether it’s from bad to good or good to bad. It’s all about you and how you want to spend your life. Surround yourself by people who lift you up. The people you hang out with should make you happy, and you should always be having fun with them. If something’s not going the way you want it to, and you’re just not happy with your life, change it. We all have the ability to change our lives, and make it how we want it. We, and even I, may not realize it yet, but I know deep down inside me we can all achieve our dreams, and the people around you should support you in everything.

I’ve recently noticed all the beautiful people surrounding me with their love. They pick me up, push me to be a better person, and simply love me for who I am. I am so thankful for that. I want to give back to them, and support them with all my might for them to go out into the world and achieve their dreams.

So find your people that surround you with their love, and make you a better person. Be grateful for them, and make sure you love them back.

In this world, we all mirror each other. I’m not saying that we try to be like each other; we are all our own selves. We push each other to keep going in life, and that’s what everyone needs.

So as you look in the mirror and the people around you, do you feel like you’re in the right spot? Are you loving yourself where you are right now? You deserve self-love, and no one can give it better than you.

The Little Things

024Happy September everyone! I honestly can’t believe that it’s already the month of September. It’s amazing how fast time flies by without us even knowing it. So this brings me down to the purpose of today’s post. With it being the first of September, the season of fall approaching, and new things coming, I’m going make an effort to enjoy the little things more often. Be in the present more.

Recently, I’ve been thinking about the future a lot. Thinking about college, what I’m going to do, and worrying too much about what if it’s not right. With all this thinking, I’m missing out on all the things that’s happening in my life right now. Yes, I will be applying for college and looking towards the future, but the college that I’m going to go to is already here, in the present, I just don’t know it yet.

I’ve been reading a book called, You are a Badass, by Jen Sincero. She talks about how to live your awesome life you’re meant to have, and stop thinking so much. Be in the present more, and basically just be more mindful. I just started it, so I’m not even close to getting the full message yet, but what I’ve read so far has made me way more aware about what’s going on in my life.

So to finish this post up, I just want to make the point to enjoy the little things. Photograph a moment that you’re really enjoying, have fun spending time with your friends and family, take the time to enjoy your cup of coffee in the morning, fall in deeply into the novel you’re reading. Whatever you’re doing with your time, enjoy that time. Be happy. Be present. We only have one life, so why worry so much?

What are your goals for the new month ahead? Thanks for reading, and have a wonderful September.

A Morning Downtown

101100088091103119079134

Not too long ago, I decided I want to expand my photography hobby. Meaning, I want to do something more with my photography skills. So this came down to the idea to do portrait photography; to capture the moments of other people creating memories, and so they can look back at these pictures and be reminded of happy times.

I asked my best friend, Hanna, if I could take pictures of her so I could practice my portrait photography, and that week we went downtown to have a fun, little photo shoot. We went downtown early, and it was a different experience than what I’ve had before. There wasn’t too many people, and there were actually parking spots! After the shoot, we went to a nearby coffee shop to enjoy the rest of the morning before we had to get on with the rest of our day.

I encourage you to expand one of your hobbies or try a new one, and go outside your comfort zone. You never know where it will take you.

P.S. A few weeks ago, I took pictures of my sister during a beautiful summer sunset. So check out that blog post here!

Motivation Tips

119

We all have that little voice inside our heads that’s telling us, “eh, I can do that later.” In other words, the “procrastination voice.” There’s always a day where we aren’t feeling up to doing a certain job, but you know you have to get it done. Or you have a free day where you can finally get things done, but when you wake up that morning you don’t feel like getting out of bed.

So today I’m sharing some tips to get you get or stay motivated and back at conquering the world. These tips I have for you are from what I learned from other people, and also what I find works well for me.

  • Listen to some good music. I find that playing music while you do your work, or exercising, or chores, makes doing the job a lot more fun. It also helps you stay focused. So I suggest creating a playlist you can jam out to. While I’m studying for school, I like to listen to classical music. It helps me focus on what I’m studying, and blocks out what’s going on outside of my brain.
  • Get something to motivate you and reward yourself. Sometimes when I’m feeling totally unmotivated, I’ll buy myself a coffee to motivate me. Coffee is something I love, and it just makes me happy; so sipping on a coffee and doing something I don’t feel like doing makes life so much easier. You can buy yourself a little treat to help you get motivated. Or you can reward yourself by watching a favorite show or buying yourself something you’ve had your eye on after you’ve completed your list.
  • Go outside and take a walk. Sometimes if you’re in the same room for a while, you tend to get sick of the environment and you begin to feel unmotivated. At this point in time, a friend suggested to me to go outside and take a walk. You get a different scenery, some fresh air, and a renewal to start over.
  • Think about the positive. Think about the benefits and pros you’re getting out of the work you have to do. For example, if you don’t want to go to your job, think about the hours you’re getting and the money you’re making. Everyone likes money, right? 😉 If you’re feeling unmotivated to practice your instrument, think about how you have the capability to play this beautiful instrument and create wonderful music. Thinking about the positive stuff will make you feel a lot better.036
  • If your work is portable, go somewhere outside your home. For instance, if some work you have to get done is on a computer, or you have to read a book for school, go to a café or a park. Going somewhere can increase your motivation by a lot. A change of the environment and a change of scenery is always good. 😉 I find that even going out on your porch to do homework or work is really motivating because then I’m not stuck inside.
  • Work with friends. We all know it, friends just make everything better. 🙂 Ask your friends if you want to go to a coffee shop or come over to your house to get some things done together. During school, doing homework with your friends makes the grudge not so bad, and makes the time go by faster.
  • Choose a certain time of day to do your work. Tell yourself, “Okay, I’m going to do this at 10.” Telling yourself you’re going to do a certain thing at a certain time can help motivate you to just get the job done. And when you tell yourself you’re going to do that thing at that time, DO IT. Don’t run away from it, you got it!
  • Make a ‘To Do List’ and get the list done at a certain time. Just write down all the things you need to get done for the day and tell yourself you’re going to get it all done by this time. Make it easy on yourself and start with the easy jobs first, then work your way up to the harder and more time consuming ones. If your able, write your to-do list the night before, and then the next morning you can wake up, do your morning routine, then start your list.

That’s all the tips I have for you. Really in the end, it’s all about that little voice inside your head. It’s just the fact at ignoring that little “procrastination voice” and just getting started. You’ll feel better once it’s all done!

I’m definitely still working on my own self-motivation, but I’m practicing on telling myself that I can do this, and it will all be better in the end!

So let’s gets started on that list, shall we? 😉 Have a great day, and make every moment count. ❤
